Kure Memorial Lutheran Church evolved from Kure Memorial Chapel, a non-denominational Sunday School organized by a retired Lutheran pastor and a Baptist minister. In 1951, all residents of Kure Beach were invited to decide what denomination the only church in town at that time should be. The vote was for "Lutheran." The Baptists then began their fine church just a few blocks away. For over half a century KMLC has been proclaiming the good news of God's love on Pleasure Island.
So why now has this church (or any church for that matter) decided to join a community Chamber of Commerce? It doesn't matter what you sell or what service you offer, any business or professional member of the Chamber is essentially in the business of creating and nurturing relationships. And that's what Kure Memorial is about also: creating and nurturing relationships among people, and between people and a loving God.
Our mission, as followers of Jesus Christ, is to be a welcoming and caring people, proclaiming the good news, sharing our faith, and serving God and this community. We build
Habitat for Humanity Houses, support the HELP Center, and deliver
Hospice meals. Four AA and NA programs meetin in our facilities. We established the first quality Pre-School in Kure Beach, our youth have a great time working together helping people here and as far away as Homestead, FL, adn we work with the great summer programs at the Agape/Kure Beach Retreat Center. Our growing membership is a joyful family of people with a delightfully diverse mixture of church, cultural, and regional backgrounds. Our worship is spirited, we are serious about serving, and we don't back off having a good time together. At KMLC we truly celebrate life!
We would love to be your church home. Kure Memorial is located at 117 N. 3rd Ave. in Kure Beach, just behind Big Daddy's Seafood Restaurant and across the street from the Kure Town Center. On Sunday's we meet at 9 AM for Christian education for all ages, at 10 AM for worship, and at 11 AM for fellowship, fun, and sending out to serve.
