9th Annual Touch of Class Charity Auction, May 8th

The Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the 9th Annual Touch of Class Charity Auction on Friday evening, May 8th.

  • Info: Tickets are $35.00 and include admission for both the silent and live auctions, two free drink coupons, delicious butlered hors d'oeuvres, dinner, and, of course, the all important bidding paddle!
A percentage of this year's auction proceeds will benefit the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center.

The Last Resort Bar in Carolina Beach Hosts Cure Cancer Cornhole Tournament

Kure Memorial Lutheran Church Presents Kentucky Derby Day!

The Kure Beach Memorial Lutheran Church is hosting a "Run for the Roses" fundraiser event to benefit the Church.

There will be a contest for Judge's Choice for best hat and best bowtie.

Carolina Beach Amusement Park Rides Approved!

As reported in the Island Gazette, the Carolina Beach Planning Commission unanimously approved a request for a conditional use permit to install and operate amusement rides in currently vacant lots near the Boardwalk in Carolina Beach, NC. The rides will be installed and managed by Megerle’s Magic and Hildebrand Rides of Gibsonton, Florida who have over 35 years of experience in the amusement industry.

The park rides will be installed on a seasonal basis and will operate Sunday through Thursday from 10:00 am until 11:00 pm and will stay open until midnight on Friday and Saturday.

The amusement rides, including mechanical rides, kid's rides, a fun house, and food stands, should be operating by May 2009.

Kure Beach Street Festival 2009

With the arrival of spring comes the Kure Beach Street Festival! This is the 3rd Annual Celebration so mark your calendars...

  • Where: K Avenue in front of the Kure Beach Pier
  • Info: Admission is free!
There will be live music, good food, arts and crafts, plenty of dancing, and a gigantic fireworks display at dusk. Some of the bands performing include The Sandy Bottom Beach Boys (bluegrass), Brunswick County Band (jazz), Diane and Tony (oldies, country, blues and more), and Shamalama (beach, blues, Top 40 and more).

The Kure Beach Street Festival is always a blast so be sure to come on down and enjoy!

Carolina Beach Boardwalk Amusement Park Rides

As you may have heard on the news or read in the papers recently, the Town of Carolina Beach was submitted a proposal and request for a conditional use permit (CUP) for Amusement Park Rides to be developed on currently vacant lots in the Carolina Beach Boardwalk area. The proposal was submitted by Megerle’s Magic and Hildebrand Rides of Gibsonton, Florida.

The Town of Carolina Beach Planning Commission has reviewed the proposal and made their recommendation regarding the Amusement Park Rides to be installed and operated. The proposal will now be reviewed by the Carolina Beach Town Council at their meeting tomorrow night, Tuesday, April 14th, 2009 at 6:30 pm at the Town Hall. If approved, the rides could be up and running next month!

RASP Class Resheduled for April 13th

The Responsible Alcohol Sellers Program (RASP) Class that was originally scheduled for March 26th has been rescheduled for Monday, April 13th, 2009 at 6:00 pm at the Carolina Beach Town Hall Police Training Room.

The RASP class was developed to assist permittees in training employees/volunteers on the responsible sales and service of alcoholic beverages.

The program teaches the latest techniques in detecting underage and intoxicated patrons.

The RASP class is FREE of charge and lasts approximately 1 hour.

Once you have taken this class, you are registered with the State of North Carolina and you will receive a certificate showing you have taken this course.

Island Women's 2nd Annual Yard Sale - Carolina Beach

Island Women, a Women's Organization dedicated to the betterment of Pleasure Island, will be holding their 2nd Annual Yard Sale to raise funds for their cause.
