Kure Beach Community Center

Classes & Events



The Community Center of Kure Beach offers lots of different classes and events for area residents. 

Aikido 

Aikido is a martial art based on traditional Japanese Samurai arts. It is traditionally considered a "soft" martial art because it includes throws and joint locks instead of kicks and punches. Aikido is an excellent martial art for kids to learn discipline and respect.

  • Classes held every Tuesday and Thursday evening at the Kure Beach Community Center

Line Dance

Ron Griffin is the Line Dance Instructor at both the Carolina Beach and Kure Beach locations. Ron is an 18 year resident of Kure Beach and is retired from a career in Aerospace Engineering. He was introduced to Line Dancing over 15 years ago and has been instructing for over 10 years.

  • TIME: 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
  • Cost of class is $1 per person.

Pleasure Island Disc Golf Club Workday

Following hurricane Rita, the course was been restored complete with signs, baskets, and a well manicured lawn. The course is right by the ship channel which supplies a scenic view.

Join the Pleasure Island Disc Golf Club on the first Saturday of every month for a Course Workday. Each workday consists of general maintenance and cleanup around the 18-Hole Disc Golf Course.

Jersey Nights Christmas Special

Senior Christmas Trip


Hop aboard a chartered bus to the Palace Theatre in Myrtle Beach for the "Jersey Nights Christmas Special". This Christmas trip will be full of entertainment, fellowship and holiday cheer!

WHEN: Wednesday, December 10, 2014

TIME: Leaving the Senior Center at 7:00 a.m. and returning around 4: 00 p.m.

COST: $43 per participant includes all of your transportation costs, bus driver's tip and theatre tickets.

FOOD: Lunch will be an additional $8.19 at Golden Corral located in Myrtle Beach


Payment and registration is due by Monday, November 24th. Space is limited - no refunds.

Pleasure Island Shopping Spree

Shop the 4th Annual Pleasure Island Shopping Spree
Keep Your Dollars Local


Continuing with Pleasure Island tradition, this year the annual shopping spree will be sponsored and hosted by the Courtyard Marriott in Carolina Beach. The event supports both the island and small businesses.

WHEN: Saturday, Nov. 22nd from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. & Sunday Nov. 23rd from 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.

This year there will be prizes available, which includes a gift basket from every store valued at a minimum of $75 each and a HUGE grand prize valued at $800.

For every $10 you spend you will receive a raffle ticket so the more you spend the better your chances of winning will be. The grand prize consists of a weekend getaway at Courtyard by Marriott, food included, tickets to the NC Aquarium, a bottle of wine plus his and hers pedicures.

Progress On The Carolina Beach Boardwalk


CB Boardwalk Makeover 

Comprised of a group of citizens and Carolina Beach businesses, the infamous CB Boardwalk is undergoing a full makeover in order to enrich the lives of residents and visitors alike. 


Through the financial aid of public and private contributions, the area will receive fresh paint, planters, murals, sculptures, artwork, shady trees, flower shrubs, comfortable benches and new trash / cigarette receptacles to keep the area clean.

The purpose of this makeover is to provide a safe, healthy and beautiful environment as a means of cultural expression and to encourage thoughtful development of the area. The city wishes to further community outreach by promoting education of the environment and increase area entertainment opportunities. Additionally, this makeover will further support a healthy lifestyle for CB citizens by providing a peaceful place to enjoy jogging, yoga and other athletic opportunities.

Chili Cook-Off Benefit

Chili Cook-Off Benefit


Step Up For Soldiers will team up with the High Tide Lounge for their annual chili cook-off again this November to raise money for Justin Crabbe. 

Justin lost both his legs and some of his fingers when his Marine Corp. unit was attacked in Afghanistan in 2010. Justin's cousin, Tom Crabbe, who lives in Carolina Beach says he his very pleased with all the support that the Crabbe family has received since the 2010 attack. Local residents have sent Justin thousands of dollars to help with his medical expenses.

WHERE: High Tide Lounge
TIME: 1:00 P.M.

Admission is $10 and all the proceeds go directly to Justin.

Crawl for Paws

Crawl for Paws

Crawl for Paws is a pub crawl designed to raise funds for the Carolina Beach Police Department K9 unit and other animal charities. 

The first Crawl for Paws was held in May 2014 to help purchase equipment for the Carolina Beach Police Department K9 unit. Everyone had such great feedback that Crawl for Paws has become a semi-annual event.
