If you stop a moment and consider last year’s holiday gifts, both the ones you purchased and received, are there any standouts? Chances are, you’ll be hard pressed to recall just one memorable item! Finding unique presents for friends and family is tough, especially in this age of online shopping. However, sometimes the solution to finding a few “wow factor” gifts is right in your own backyard. This year, please consider buying local and supporting many of our valued chamber members. Not only will you save on time, money and gas, you’ll also find a wonderful selection of unique things to choose from!

From original paintings, metal sculptures, classes and jewelry, they have loads of affordable gift ideas: http://www.artfullivinggroup.com/ Another creative idea is a make it and take it class from Sip and Paint.-they also have kid’s classes and private lessons: http://www.cbsipandpaint.com/
Beach House Rental - This is a great idea for families to pool their resources on. Health Services - We are so lucky here on Pleasure Island to have chamber members who can ease us through life’s aches and pains. Is there someone on your list who would appreciate a gift card to one of these local businesses? http://www.carolinabeachchiropractic.com/ or Carolina Beach Community Acupuncture - http://www.jeremylinquistacupuncture.com/
Furry Friends - Of course pets love the holidays too, which is why the freshly baked treats and grooming services at Fo(u)r Dogs Pet Salon and Treatery would be a big hit! http://www.fourdogspetsalon.com/ Another thoughtful and unique idea is a gift card to Carolina Beach Animal Hospital for a wellness check or microchip: http://www.animalhospitalcarolinabeach.com/index.html
Federal Point Historic Preservation Society - For the history buffs on your list, stop by the society’s gift shop for a variety of items including books, DVDs, magnets, puzzles, notecards, maps and prints: http://federal-point-history.org/shop/
Learn to surf or SUP - As they say, “only a surfer knows the feeling” so spread some holiday cheer with a few lessons. Local legend, Tony Silvagni has an impressive list of credentials and lucky for us, operates a surf school right here on beautiful Pleasure Island. From surf or Sup lessons, to a camp or personal photo shoot, surely someone on your list has been waiting for this stocking stuffer - a gift card from: http://www.surfschoolnc.com/about
Goodies Galore - Whether your goal is to fill the ultimate holiday basket, have delectable edibles on hand for company or leave something yummy as a Secret Santa, many of our chamber members have endless options. Check out Island Roast Coffee, Island Wellness Market and the Veggie Wagon:

Give Back - Were you aware that the non-profit organization Nourish NC is located right here in New Hanover County? They work tirelessly to alleviate childhood hunger throughout our area. One of the biggest problems occurs when school children who receive free or reduced meals are on long school breaks, such as during the holidays. Please consider making a donation in your name or as a gift in someone else’s. We encourage you to read about their work here and see that for as little as $45.00 you can purchase a holiday box which will provide 3 meals per day over the 16-day December break! http://www.nourishnc.org/
