Jonny Lang and Samantha Fish Headline 23rd Annual Pleasure Island Seafood Blues & Jazz Festival

The 23rd Annual Pleasure Island Seafood Blues & Jazz Festival is excited to announce the musical headliners for 2016: Jonny Lang and Samantha Fish!

The Pleasure Island Seafood Blues and Jazz Festival will take place at the Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Area on October 8th and 9th this year. As expected, the Festival organizers are again bringing two internationally renowned artists on both Saturday and Sunday.

Headlining on Saturday will be the phenomenal Jonny Lang, who released his first album Lie To Me at the age of 16, some 19 years ago. Jonny Lang is an American blues, gospel and rock singer, songwriter, guitarist and recording artist. He has five albums that charted in the top 50 of the Billboard 200 chart and is a Grammy Award winner for Turn Around in 2007. Jonny is currently touring in support of his new album Fight For My Soul. Opening for the incredible Jonny Lang will be Kara Grainger (from Syndey, Australia) returning for an encore performance, offering tasteful blues and slide guitar combined with soulful vocals who will leave you wanting more.

On Sunday, we will be having a potential EPIC occasion - we are bringing Pleasure Island the dynamic Samantha Fish out of Kansas City with her staggering vocal emotions and aching guitar riffs. Influenced by her musical heroes, such as Tom Petty, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Sheryl Crow, Samantha brings her amazing blend of America Root Music "which has little trouble vocalizing her sadness, anger and pain - and doing so in a bewitchingly seraphic timbre" (Guitar Girl Magazine). Opening for Ms. Fish will be Luxuriant Sedans, the brand new band from the fertile musical stomping grounds of the North Carolina Piedmont...once you've gone Luxuriant, there is no turning back.

We have a special treat this year - The Gate City Divas or What happens when eight female singer-songwriters get together and combine their talents? Be there on Saturday and plan to be amazed. Melva Houston is one of the eight and has not graced our stage since the 2nd Annual Festival in 1992 - Welcome Home Divas, Welcome Home.

In addition, there will be many other blues and jazz groups on two stages over the two-day Festival. for families, the amazing FREE Kidzone will be back with magicians, face-painting, educational exhibits, inflatables, laser tag and much more. Shop at the many and varied vendors and adults can enjoy a little beer or wine as well. No coolers or pets, but bring your chairs, towels and blankets for a weekend of music and seafood on the coast!
