Just
because summer is over doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do on
Pleasure Island. Quite the contrary! Pleasure Island is renowned for
great entertainment, great food, and great experiences all year long.
So whether you’re footloose-and fancy-free empty nesters, or a
young family looking for a holiday adventure away from the house,
make Pleasure Island your holiday getaway destination where you’ll
find no shortage of fun ways to celebrate the season.
Thanksgiving
or Christmas, no matter the upcoming holiday, the Pleasure Island
community has a full schedule of events.
25 years
and still going strong, the Island of Lights is a not-to-be missed
Pleasure Island tradition. On Friday, November 25th, come join the
lighting
of the lake celebration, which kicks off the season. This free,
family-friendly event starts at 7:00 p.m. at Carolina Beach Lake.
Once the
lights are lit at the lake, the party isn’t over. Head to the
Carolina Boardwalk where the 8th
annual Christmas
by the Sea Boardwalk Lighting Celebration, organized by the
Carolina Beach Downtown Initiative, will take place at the Gazebo at
7:30 p.m. Bring the kids out to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus, and enjoy
hot chocolate at the Welcome center, and free ornament making.
There’ll be fun activities every Saturday through December 16th
from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
On
Saturday, November 26th,
do some holiday shopping at the Kure
Beach Holiday Market at Ocean Front Park from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00
p.m. from some of the areas most talented artisans and merchants
offering hand crafted goods, jewelry, cooking sauces and spices, fine
art, and much more, including a DJ and lots of food trucks. Visiting
this open air market is a favorite activity for visitors and
residents alike.
Christmas
just wouldn’t be Christmas without a parade. Join locals, visitors,
and volunteers at the annual Christmas Parade on Friday, December 2nd
at 7:30 p.m. at Lake Park
Blvd. Come see festive floats, talented bands, and of course, Santa
Claus as the parade makes its way from Atlantic Avenue down Lake Park
Blvd. to the Federal Point Plaza in Carolina Beach.
The only
thing that can top the parade is the Christmas
Flotilla. On Saturday, December 3rd
at 6:00 p.m., watch fishing boats and pleasure craft light up the
Intracoastal Waterway, decked out with thousands upon thousands of
holiday lights for a spectacular holiday show as they cruise from
Snows Cut to the Carolina Beach Boat Basin and back.
You won’t
want to miss the FREE, quirky, and entertaining Kure
Beach Fantasy Christmas Show featuring singers, dancers, and lots
of costumed characters performing your favorite Christmas tunes. The
show runs December 9th-11th
and starts at 7:00. But you’ll want to get there early for the 6:30
pre-show.
Feel like
doing some walking? Get a first-hand glimpse of some of Pleasure
Islands most exquisitely decorated homes on this self-guided Tour of
