Microchip Clinic in Carolina Beach on April 3rd

The Animal Medical Clinic and Saving Animals During Disasters are offering a Microchip Clinic on April 3rd from noon - 2 pm. A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice, and is inserted just under your pet's skin. It stores your information and can be scanned should your pet be found without identification. It is no more painful or traumatic for your dog or cat than a regular vaccination.

According to HomeAgain, the provider of the microchips, one in three pets will become lost at some point during their lifetime. If yours is one of them don't you want to do everything you can to increase the liklihood that they will return home safely?

Easter Egg Hunt at Mike Chappell Park in Carolina Beach

The Town of Carolina Beach Parks & Recreation Department is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt for children ages 12 and under at Mike Chappell Park on Saturday, April 3rd from 11 am to noon. The Easter Bunny will be hopping by to pose for pictures, and kids can also participate in games and crafts.

Carolina Beach Fishing Pier is open for the 2010 season

Signs of Spring are all around and the latest is the opening of the Carolina Beach Fishing Pier. It opened today, Friday, March 26, at 8:00 am. Surf fishing is a popular pastime on Pleasure Island, and both local and visiting fishing enthusiasts will be excited to learn that this popular spot is open for the 2010 season.

This is a great time of year to get out there with a rod and some bait to see what is biting. Pick up a copy of Fisherman's Post to see what others had good luck with.

If your fishing excursion to the Carolina Beach Fishing Pier delivers fun and fresh air but few fish, don't worry - you can always stop by Fish Bites Seafood Restaurant & Fresh Market for something to take home for dinner. We won't tell!

Hometown Hero, Sgt. Kimberly Munley, Makes a visit to Carolina Beach

Sgt. Kimberly Munley, a true American hero and Carolina Beach native, will be returning to Pleasure Island this weekend to visit her father, Dennis Barbour, owner of Island Tackle & Hardware. Sgt. Munley is credited with ending the violent shooting rampage of Army Major Nidal Hassan at Fort Hood this past November. She was injured during the encounter, but is well on her way to recovery.

Sgt. Munley was recently a distinguished guest of honor during the President's State of the Union Address, and has been announced as Parade Marshall for the 2010 Azalea Fest in Wilmington. If you see her around Carolina Beach this weekend be sure to say hello, and express appreciation for her service and sacrifice for our country.
