Do
you love the outdoors? Are you considered a nature enthusiast by
friends and family? Do you have a soft spot for the Pleasure Island
community? If you answered yes to all of these questions, why not
volunteer with Friends of Pleasure Island State Parks and help
support and promote our two local state parks - Carolina Beach State
Park and Fort Fisher State Recreation Area.

The
volunteer program for North Carolina state parks was formalized in
1988, and volunteer participation has increased each year. Today,
every state park and state recreation area has identified specific
needs that cannot be met by existing staff.

No
matter your passion, volunteers contribute to our local state parks
in a variety of ways like improving hiking trails, leading guided
tours, sharing your expertise in wildlife habitats, assisting with
special events, and helping maintain the natural beauty of the parks,
as well as many other opportunities that help enhance, preserve, and
protect our natural resources while providing for their use and
enjoyment by visitors.
Help
from citizen volunteers is especially important in order for the
Division of Parks and Recreation to fulfill even its most basic
responsibilities to the public. So please consider being a Friend and
advocate and giving back to the community of Pleasure Island while
you make great friends and meet enthusiastic patrons. If you would
like to become a state park volunteer, email Friends of Pleasure
Island State Parks at friendspsp@gmail.com.
