Rip Current Awareness on Pleasure Island and the NC Coast

In light of the recent tragedies on Pleasure Island due to Rip Currents, Bob Lewis from The Last Resort is starting the Pleasure Island Rip Tide Awareness Campaign to educate the public on Rip Currents.

Bob is challenging the local businesses to pitch in and help get enough Rip Tide Awareness Posters printed so that each business, real estate company, property rental company and individual owners of condo/beach house rentals can display and educate the public on a daily basis. Bob has volunteered to organize, collect donations for printing expenses and will also go around to the local businesses and distribute the information.

While our lifeguards, fire and safety rescue personnel and the police department are doing a wonderful job, we need to do our part to help educate the public immediately.

If you would like to donate your time or money to this incredibly valuable campaign, please contact Bob at 599-2879 or visit him at The Last Resort at 600 N. Lake Park Boulevard.

We need your help to avoid any further loss of life on our Island.

Spotlight on Business - Reynolds/Architecture Corporation

Reynolds/Architecture Corporation (R/A) was formed in Winston-Salem in the early ‘90’s to serve the growing Design/Build market that was emerging at that time. Joining forces with Landmark Builders, we provided Design/Build service primarily for the Medical, Corporate, Retail and Religious community within Central North Carolina. In 2004, after fourteen exhaustive years with over $40,000,000.00/year in work, R/A decided to have a change of scenes, down-sized and relocated to our wonderful community of Pleasure Island. Since that time, we have found success in the ever-changing landscape of North Lake Park Boulevard as well as continuing work in other parts of the state. R/A is responsible for the new Brew-Thru, the Island Tackle & Hardware renovation/addition, Tangerines Caribbean Grille, Victory Beach Vacations and the offices of Robert Caulder, Attorney. In addition, R/A has consulted on various projects for the Black Horn Bar & Kitchen, Tortuga’s Oceanfront Restaurant, Megerle’s Magic Amusement Park, The Dive, Shuck ‘n Shack, Magnolia Trace Townhomes (Gold Medal
winner in 2008 Parade of Homes), Victory Village Shopping Emporium and Mein Stein German Specialty Restaurant.

Prior to forming Reynolds/Architecture Corporation, Greg Reynolds, (a Greensboro native) graduated from UNC-Charlotte (BA-Architecture) and the University of Florida (Masters of Architecture), and then worked for several large firms in the Florida market producing the 27-story Peabody-Orlando as well as the Yacht Club and Beach Club Hotels at Disney World. In addition, Greg worked on many Corporate Headquarters, Department Of Defense projects and various municipal projects throughout the Southeast.

Since choosing Pleasure Island as their new home, Greg, his wife Teresa (a local artist) and 14 year old daughter Marissa have thrown themselves into Island life with open arms. Marissa is a 9th grader at Ashley, Teresa is known for her mosaics of virtually anything (i.e.
mannequins, lamps, wine racks, glass heads, etc.) which can be viewed on ebay, craigslist, and etsy under fluffbyteresa@yahoo.com, and Greg has volunteered his time and expertise to the Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce as a Director, the Planning and Zoning board as a Commissioner and recently was named Volunteer of the Year by the Chamber. And let’s not forget Justin, their 27 year old son, living and working in the Burlington area in the IT field.

For all your Architecture and Design needs, you do not need to leave Pleasure Island anymore. Just give Greg or Teresa a call at (910)458-0082 or drop them a line at greg@rarch.com and we will be glad to consult with you on anything big or small.

Pleasure Island, N.C. Chosen As Summer Travel Destination by The New York Times

Pleasure Island, N.C. was included in The New York Times Sunday edition Travel section as a prime summer destination for a weekend getaway.

In the article titled "One Summer, 14 Weekends," writer Dave Caldwell determined that there are 14 weekends this year between Memorial Day and Labor Day and he laid out a plan to travel to an ideal summer getaway during each weekend.

Pleasure Island, N.C. was his chosen destination for the weekend of June 20-21. In the article, Caldwell writes:
"...you can tackle the area by hiking in Carolina Beach State Park (910-458-8206), home to the carnivorous Venus’ flytraps. Or you can rent a surfboard or body board at SandBarz Surf and Skate Shop on the Boardwalk in Carolina Beach."
In addition to our Pleasure Island Chamber members:
Caldwell also mentions Chamber members:

While we know and understand the beauty and value of Pleasure Island, it is exciting to be promoted by The New York Times as an ideal summer destination. If you haven't been here before, give us a weekend and try us out! What's Your Pleasure?

Now - if only Mr. Caldwell had picked Pleasure Island, N.C. as a destination for the weekend of June 6th, he could have enjoyed our famous Beach Music Festival. Maybe next year!

But it's not too late for you - Buy your tickets today!
