Spotlight on Business - Hidden Treasure Inn

Nancy said it herself..."It *is* a genuine Hidden Treasure"...our word of mouth advertising has done most of the work for us in the 14 years we have been serving the great Kure Beach travelers and
local guests. In the beginning, we could not afford a lot of advertising but I did go to the tourism brochures and once they came, they kept coming back.

Some for pleasure and relaxation, honeymoons and even business regulars. Hidden Treasure specializes in individual attention to detail and good 'ole southern hospitality. Though raised as one of
those "Northerners" it did not take long for Nancy to fall in love with the idea of being an Inn-keeper and her natural effervescent personality was a great match to being a truly great host.

Tucked into the local terrain it would be easy to miss which is precisely its charm. It does not need to SHOUT at you, it simply becomes you when you are the guest. Always immaculately clean there are homey touches in every suite; each one a little different from the other, just like its guests! Close enough to fall into the pool out the front door or take a leisurely stroll down toward the famous Kure Beach Pier, snagging an ice cream or fresh daily shrimp, it is never overrun with crowds and the village is very easy to navigate to get to all the local attractions: T-Shirt shops if you must but there are also ferry cruises to nearby islands and the best moons hung in the night sky that you have ever seen. Especially nice in off-season, where only the gulls will read over your shoulders.

As you loll in a beach chair, butt dragging the sand and feel the sun warm the side of your face and whip your jacket like a flag on a tall mast you will be sad to go but you will know for sure that you came as a guest, and left as a friend.

Carolina Beach Boardwalk Makeover Shining in Holiday Season

The Star-News recently reported on the First Annual Christmas by the Sea event put on by the Carolina Beach Boardwalk Makeover committee.  They noted the success of the amusement park rides on the Boardwalk this past summer and how the committee hopes to extend that success into the holiday season.

Over the last two years, the Carolina Beach Boardwalk Makeover committee has worked to improve the image of the boardwalk through landscaping and painting as well as improve the draw of the area with family entertainment, including weekly live music at the Gazebo accompanied by a fireworks display.  And, this past summer saw the return of the amusement park rides that once marked the prime of the Boardwalk district.

The amusement park rides brought an unprecedented number of people to the Boardwalk compared to the last few decades.  While Christmas by the Sea may not necessarily bring the same number of visitors, the event may help to cement the area's presence as a year-round attraction and will hopefully become a long-term tradition.

Town of Carolina Beach NC to Purchase Lots to Build Aquarium Pier

The Star-News and Snows Cut Monthly reported last week that the Carolina Beach Town Council voted 3-2 to approve the purchase of six empty lots from the former Arcadius development project located on Carolina Beach Avenue North to build out site of a new Aquarium Pier.

The Town Council also voted to approve the purchase of an additional Carolina Beach Avenue North lot where they held the winning bid in a bankruptcy auction.

The aquarium pier would be a joint project between the Town of Carolina Beach and the North Carolina Aquariums. The Star-News reports:
The pier would be a 1,000-foot concrete pier with wooden decking, including fish tanks and educational and event facilities. The town also has discussed putting a beach access, bathhouse and park there.
The details of the project are still in the works.  The cost of purchasing the land and building the pier could mean higher taxes on residents or it could be covered by grants.  For now, the purchase price of the lots will be covered by funds from a town parking lot (which was not paid for with tax money).  Also, several uses for the lots are in consideration.
