Buying or Building a Home on Pleasure Island
We never get tired of hearing it from Pleasure Island visitors, “One day, I’m coming back for good!”
If you’ve made this promise to yourself, you’ll be delighted to know that now is a good time to buy or build a home in Carolina Beach or Kure Beach. The real estate market is continuing to show signs of gaining strength throughout the area, and prospective buyers are urged to act quickly while mortgage rates are historically low. Here is information you’ll want to know if you’re considering making one of our beach communities your first or second home.
The actual sales price of homes in Carolina Beach has remained steady so far in 2015, with the average selling price just a little over $260,000. Many Carolina Beach home sellers are still making some concessions to buyers -- but don’t count on these trends to continue much longer. The real estate market is picking up throughout the region, and Carolina Beach is no exception.
Whether you’re looking for a single-family home, condo or townhome, there is a good variety on the market in Carolina Beach right now. Available land for new home construction is a little less plentiful in the town limits, but can still be found and at relatively good prices. See a list of local home builders below.
You can also find a list of area Real Estate Companies in our Local Business Search on PleasureIsland.org.
There are still some ideal parcels of land available if your goal is to build a new home in Kure Beach. Contact any of these outstanding local homebuilders and get started on your dream of building your perfect Pleasure Island home today!

Kate’s Pancake House
A great beach day begins with a great breakfast. At Kate’s you’ll find southern favorites like eggs with country-fried steak, creative benedict plates, and plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. Most folks go for the pancakes -- you could try a different flavor stack every day for two weeks and still not have exhausted all the choices. A few favorites are the Caribbean Pleasure stack and Death by Chocolate. Kate’s has that small-town friendly diner feel to it, and it’s evident by the great service that the staff loves working here. There’s a nice sandwich and salad selection for lunch, too.102 S. Lake Park Blvd. in Carolina Beach.
Open 6:30 am – 1:00 pm.
Gibby’s Dock and Dine
At Gibby’s you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner outside with a water view. Gibby’s deck overlooks the scenic Carolina Beach Yacht Basin on the Intracoastal Waterway, and boaters are welcomed to dock up for free and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere, cold drinks and extensive menu. The locals especially love the crab omelet for breakfast, creative burgers at lunchtime, and the decadent seafood pasta for dinner. Gibby’s is open every day from 6am – 2am and features live music on Thursday nights.315 Canal Dr., Carolina Beach.
Ocean Grill and Tiki Bar
You’ll get an authentic taste of the islands at this iconic spot overlooking the ocean in Carolina Beach. Enjoy lunch or dinner with panoramic view in the Ocean Grill dining room, or stroll onto the pier and pull up a stool at the Tiki Bar, where you’ll feel like you’re in the tropics as you enjoy a cocktail with the waves lapping just below you. Lunchtime menu favorites include fish tacos and fresh salads topped with blackened fish or fried oysters. For dinner, locals love the calabash-style seafood platters and the catch of the day prepared with an island flair. A creative cocktail menu completes the tropical vibe with drinks like the Mai Tiki Tai and the Sukapunch – a delicious concoction of coconut, pineapple, banana and dark rum. The Ocean Grill is open February through December, and the Tiki Bar opens up in March, weather permitting, for the season.1211 S. Lake Park Blvd., Carolina Beach.
Surf House
Surf House is a breath of fresh air for those craving fresh, locally sourced ingredients presented artfully and changed up seasonally. Critically acclaimed by locals, Surf House serves up coastal fare with a southern flair. Most of the seafood served here comes from the regional south, and local produce shows up in their lunch and dinner creations daily. Farm-built lunch favorites include the shrimp BLT with locally-sourced bacon, arugula and heirloom tomatoes, and a spring mix salad topped with smoked trout. For dinner, you can savor inventive dishes like duck with black forbidden rice and grilled peaches, or the day’s fresh catch and littleneck clams with rustic bread for sopping. Brunch is always a hit – try the redneck benedict with catfish and country ham, or the hippy potato hash bursting with butternut squash, mushrooms and collards. Reservations are suggested, since seating is limited. Surf House is open for lunch Wednesday through Saturday, dinner Tuesday through Saturday and for brunch on Sunday. (Hours vary by season.)604 N. Lake Park Blvd., Carolina Beach.
Jack Mackerel’s Island Grill
Located in the heart of Kure Beach just steps from the pier, Jack Mackerel’s is a family-friendly restaurant that’s a great place to visit when everyone wants something different. Their extensive lunch and dinner menus include a wide choice of sandwiches, seafood and Caribbean-inspired specialties. The atmosphere is colorful and vibrant, and “Jack Mack’s” is a great place to watch sports with several big-screen TV’s and daily drink specials. They’re open year-round and offer nightly dinner specials that change with the seasons.113 K Ave., Kure Beach.

Spotlight on Business - Battlefield Live Wilmington

Company Overview
Battlefield Live Wilmington is a local, Wilmington organization that serves private events like birthday parties, church and other group fundraisers, corporate team building, company get-togethers, wedding rehearsal dinners and/or bachelor parties, etc.
Inspired by popular video games such as the Call of Duty and Battlefield series, Battlefield Live is a live combat simulation. Barricades draw players into a 3D combat adventure.
The equipment is the latest technology. It uses a harmless infrared beam, like your TV remote, that tags sensors worn by players. Players love the missions because all the “phasers” have red-dot scopes for fast target acquisition. Children must be at least 7 years old to play, but adults of any age can and do participate. The oldest recorded player was 88.
The new company was featured at both the Island Day Celebration and the Seafood, Blues & Jazz Battlefield Live Wilmington provided exciting laser tag at the Town of Kure Beach’s Annual Employee Appreciation Luncheon.

Spotlight on Business - Island Chic Consignment Boutique
My name is Regina Scruggs, and I relocated from Wisconsin in 2012, to Wilmington, NC. I miss the Packers and Brewers, but not the snow!!!
On August 15th, 2013 I purchased Island Chic Consignment Boutique. The boutique offers ladies fine consignments, fashion accessories and much, much more. Prices are consistently ¼ of what women would expect to pay in department stores.
Some of our popular labels include; TALBOTS, NEW DIRECTIONS, BANANA REPUBLIC, TOMMY HILFIGER, LOFT, FOSSIL, PRADA, CHICOS, JJILL and NY&C. Island Chic carries a large variety of jeans in everyone’s favorite brands like: LUCKY BRAND JEANS, LEVIS, GAP, AEROPOSTLE and THE LIMITED. These are just a portion of designers that Island Chic Consignment Boutique carries.
Whether it is shoes, fashions, purses or accessories, Island Chic is a great place to put together an entire outfit!! The store also has adorable wine accessories, statement plaques and local-handmade items from several artisans.
The store also sells jewelry, “Grumpy Cat” items, 2014 CB Community T-shirts and NEW Pleasure Island reusable shopping bags!! Island Chic strives to offer a large selection of stylish, reasonably-priced fashions that change daily. Stop in and say hello; I would love to meet you!! The store is located at 1009 A-2 N Lake Park Blvd, in the Pleasure Island Plaza.
The NEW summer 2014 season hours are: Sunday-11-4, Monday- closed, Tuesday-12-7, Wednesday- 10-5 and Thurs-day through Saturday 10-6. Phone number: 910-458-4224.
