Continuing with Pleasure Island tradition, this year the annual shopping spree will be sponsored and hosted by the Courtyard Marriott in Carolina Beach. The event supports both the island and small businesses.

WHEN: Saturday, Nov. 22nd from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. & Sunday Nov. 23rd from 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.

This year there will be prizes available, which includes a gift basket from every store valued at a minimum of $75 each and a HUGE grand prize valued at $800.

For every $10 you spend you will receive a raffle ticket so the more you spend the better your chances of winning will be. The grand prize consists of a weekend getaway at Courtyard by Marriott, food included, tickets to the NC Aquarium, a bottle of wine plus his and hers pedicures.

Spotlight On Business — Footprints - Local Artisans Boutique

Footprints – Local Artisans Boutique is a new shopping experience for Carolina Beach. Opened by Trisha Rogers in May, the shop is comprised of booths that can be rented by local artists and crafters to showcase and sell their work.

Originally offering the work of three artisans, Footprints now features the talent of twelve individuals, and still has room for a few more (although spaces are filling quickly). Merchandise includes an array of original items, including:

•  paintings
• home décor
• pottery
• crocheted items
• shabby chic furnishings
• natural bath and body products

Visitors to Carolina Beach who are looking for a tangible memory of their trip can find many perfect items that are locally made – a great alternative to mass produced souvenirs that can be found at any tourist spot.

The concept for Footprints is one much like an artist cooperative. By pooling resources, many individuals are able to have their own “mini boutique” within a larger retail space that would not have been feasible to lease and run individually. In addition to working together to cover the overhead of the space, everyone works together to promote the boutique, and subsequently, each others businesses and artwork.

Adopt-An-Animal for the Holidays

Searching for a special gift for a child, or perhaps an animal lover, on your holiday list? The North Carolina Aquariums' new Adopt-An-Animal program helps you give a thoughtful present sure to make them smile.

The recently launched Adopt-An-Animal program offers a year-long adoption of popular Aquarium animals - alligators, otters, sea horses, sea turtles and sharks. Your tax-deductible contribution helps the Aquariums feed, care for and exhibit these animals.

When you choose to Adopt-An-Animal, you receive an adoption kit featuring an official certificate of adoption, an animal fact card with photos, and specialized window decals. Your name will also be listed on the Aquariums' website along with other adoption supporters. The most popular kits, available for $45, also come with a cuddly plush animal outfitted with its own hooded sweatshirt.

Additionally, those making an adoption can rest assured their contribution will be used effectively. The North Carolina Aquarium Society was recently ranked among the top zoo and aquarium non-profits in the nation and awarded a four-star rating for sound fiscal management by the online, nonprofit watch group Charity Navigator. The North Carolina Aquarium Society is the support organization for the state's three aquariums.

Spotlight on Business - Island Chic Consignment Boutique

ISLAND CHIC CONSIGNEMENT BOUTIQUE opened two months ago on the island. This store has been a large success for the island! They carry NEW and OLD ITEMS...promoting recycling and buying local....with a large variety for all women!

Kim Foust, Owner, has given back to the island in many ways in the short two months she has been opened! Island Chic has FREE WINE NIGHTS EVERY THURSDAY NIGHT hosted by local artists and home-based businesses to help their businesses grow and also help promote her store as well! Recently she donated some turtle items for the Sea Turtle Auction held on the Island to help them raise money. They donate monthly to the Chamber events, donated a few jewelry items for the Bride, Amber, with Operation Military Marry Me. Island Chic has also had a fund raiser for the month of October donating to the Pink Ribbon Project. They sold many breast cancer awareness items in the store and raffled a painting donated by Paint The Island; another Island small business!

In two months, Island Chic has grown with now over 100 consignees! Her inventory changes daily! Whether you need a cocktail dress, work attire, or just a casual outfit.....ISLAND CHIC HAS IT ALL! Youth Valentine Dance at the Carolina Beach Rec Center

Children ages 6-12, are you ready to dance the night away at the Carolina Beach Recreation Center?  DJ Tommy Gunn of Jammin 99.9 will be spinning all the hits.  Pizza and drinks will be served.  There will be prizes for the dance off and raffle prizes too!
