Upcoming Holiday Events on Pleasure Island

We can not take the credit, however, for the past few days the unseasonably mild temps and gorgeous blue skies are certainly what could be called, “Chamber of Commerce Weather”. The warm temps are predicted to last for a few more days and will make it easy to take in the holiday sights and sounds along beautiful Pleasure Island. Along with all of the holiday goings-on, there are fun and funky shops, outstanding restaurants and cafes, high-rise hotels, charming inns and cottages. It’s an idyllic place any time of year, but especially during the holidays!

Sometimes taking advantage of what an area has to offer requires a little extra planning, so here are a few ideas to consider for your holiday fun:

The Kure Beach Christmas Show


  • Saturday, December 12th, 6:30-8 pm

This FREE event is a local favorite, especially among the younger crowd! From 6:30 until 8 pm, on K Avenue, right next to the Kure Beach Fishing Pier, costumed holiday characters will be performing seasonal tunes sung by an all-local cast. There will also be appearances by Frosty, Harriet the Hippo, the Grinch, Olaf, Anna, Elsa and Rudolph! Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be on hand with a group of their most talented elves. 7th Annual Christmas by the Sea-Carolina Beach Boardwalk


  • Saturday, December 12th and Saturday, December 19th

Another wonderful, FREE activity that’s geared for the youngsters! Please stroll along the festive boardwalk to meet Santa and enjoy hot chocolate at the Welcome Center, a fire pit with story telling, caroling, holiday themed movies at the Gazebo, puppet shows, and arts & crafts. Join the fun, this Saturday from 6:30-8:30pm. Parents, please note that you’ll have the chance to take a free photo of your child on Santa’s lap!

Ft. Fisher-Santa by the Sea 


  • Saturday,  December 12th

Many area families have made this an annual tradition -- one visit and you’ll appreciate why! The Aquarium’s unique decorations plus all of the awesome activities that include crafts, games and prizes, holiday music, plus a meet and greet with Old Saint Nick, truly make this an unforgettable evening. And you never know, sometimes Santa visits a few of his sea creature friends that live in the big tank! Admission is $15 to $18 and the program is from 5 until 8 pm. Please note that kids may not be dropped off for this, but must be accompanied by at least one adult. If you need more details, just call: 910-458-8257.

Island of Lights Tour of Homes


  • Saturday, December 12th, 4-6 pm

Here’s another holiday “must-do” that happens just once a year! It is one of the best ways that we know of for getting in the spirit of the season! Tickets($10) may be obtained at Touche` which is located at 201 N. Lake Park Blvd. This is a self-guided tour of several beautifully decorated homes and business along Pleasure Island. The hours are from 4 until 6 pm.


Oyster Roast Fundraiser for Step Up for Soldiers


  • Sunday, December 13th at 2-4 pm. 

Please join The Mailbox Store for a free oyster roast that benefits the work of Step Up for Soldiers. As a fundraiser, the event will include a silent auction and raffles for numerous awesome items! The merriment takes place at 315 Canal Drive. Please call 910-399-8550 for more information.
