It can be tough leaving your furry
family member behind when you go on vacation, but that doesn’t have
to be the case when you visit the beautiful coastal towns on Pleasure
Island in North Carolina. With a variety of pet-friendly hotels,
restaurants, parks, and activities in our area, your family dog can
enjoy a beach vacation too.
Hotels
Pleasure Island offers an abundance of
classic beach-style hotels and cottages on the beautiful Atlantic
Ocean or with close beach access that are pet-friendly. TheBeacon House Inn Bed & Breakfast is one such hotel that’s
located just a across the street from the beach at 715 Carolina Beach
Ave N. The Beacon House Cottages welcomes a maximum of two pets in
each cottage. Drifters Reef Motel,
located in the heart of Carolina Beach also welcomes two dogs per
room. Both hotels have pet fees and may have breed and size
restrictions, so be sure and inquire when making your vacation plans.
Restaurants
There are several restaurants in the
Pleasure Island area that welcome dogs at their outdoor seating
areas, including Gibby'sDock and Dine at 315 Canal Drive in Carolina Beach. Gibby’s
serves up plenty of seafood options with a dog-friendly back deck
overlooking the water. Fido will feel pampered as the staff brings
him his own bucket of ice cold water to quench his thirst while the
human family members munch on delicious on coastal Carolina
favorites! Not far away is the LazyPirate Island Sports Grill at 701 N. Lake Park Blvd., also in
Carolina Beach. They’ve got everything from wings to sandwiches to
steam pots. Their upper deck tables are dog friendly, but only before
4pm. Their friendly staff also brings your furry traveling companion
a bowl of water to enjoy on the deck. .
Parks and Activities
There are many vacation activities your
canine companion can enjoy alongside the family in Pleasure Island,
including parks and the beaches. At Carolina
Beach State Park, pets are welcome to join you on-leash on the
beach and campsites of this state park year round. There are also
abundant trails to hike with your dogs. Fort
Fisher State Park in Kure Beach also allows dog on-leash year
round. The wide beach offers a great place for your dog to run and
swim with other dogs. All parks have dog waste bag stations, so
please keep our parks and beaches clean by picking up after Fido.
The towns of Kure Beach and Carolina
Beach allow leashed dogs on the strand from October 1st to
March 31st. Freeman
Park in Carolina Beach is also a pet-friendly beach between
October 1 to March 31. You can also drive on the beach in Freeman
Park with a suitable (4x4) vehicle.
