Some beach communities roll up the streets after Labor Day, but nothing could be further from the truth on Pleasure Island!

The holiday season is a magical time here, and if you’re planning a late-season visit to Pleasure Island, you’ll find a whole host of activities that will surely put you in the Christmas spirit. Use this handy guide to plan the perfect holiday getaway to our cozy beach towns.




The Weather is Just Right 

According to weather.com, the average high temperature in November on Pleasure Island is 71 degrees; in December the average high is 62 degrees. This is ideal weather for a beach stroll or some holiday shopping at our unique little shops. The nights are cool and crisp, and will put you in a festive mood without giving you frostbite! You can usually count on plenty of sunshine during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season – Pleasure Island is a great place to escape the gloom of cooler climates.


Holiday Events Abound


Carolina Beach and Kure Beach sure know how to put on the sparkle for the holidays. Here are some of the events that welcome visitors with bright and cheery season’s greetings:

November 14, 2015 – The 3rd Annual Holiday Craft Show, sponsored by the American Legion Post 129 Auxiliary, is held each year at the Posts’ Events Pavilion, and is a great place to shop for unique holiday gifts. You can enjoy snacks, beverages and door prizes, too.

November 27, 2015 – The Island of Lights “Light up the Lake” celebration features holiday music, free refreshments and a visit from Santa. Stroll around Carolina Beach Lake and enjoy beautiful lighted displays, courtesy of the Island of Lights organization. Opening ceremonies begin at the Lake Park at 7pm.

November 27-28, 2015 – Enjoy festive family fun at Christmas by the Sea, held at the new Carolina Beach Boardwalk and Gazebo. Kids can delight in making ornaments for the tree, and the whole family will love the light displays, story-telling around the fire pit, and hot chocolate. Sponsored by the Carolina Beach Downtown Initiative and the Town of Carolina Beach.

December 4th, 2015 – The Island of Lights Christmas Parade is a hit with residents and visitors alike. The parade kicks off at 7:30pm and traverses Lake Park Boulevard down to the Federal Point Plaza. Santa will make a splashy appearance, along with bands and plenty of creative -- and sometimes wacky -- floats.

December 5th, 2015 – The Island of Lights Christmas Flotilla is a holiday favorite on Pleasure Island. Boats of all shapes and sizes bedazzled with twinkling lights cruise from Snow’s Cut to the Carolina Beach Boat Basin and back beginning at 6pm. The boats compete for holiday bragging rights and prizes.

December 12-14, 2015 – The Kure Beach Fantasy Christmas Show features an energetic cast of performers, from singers to dancers and costumed characters who entertain guests with holiday music favorites. Bring a lawn chair and a blanket and enjoy this free show beginning at 7pm on K Avenue near the Kure Beach Fishing Pier.
