Summer Movies at the Lake

Don't miss this year's Summer Movies at the Lake! This free, family-friendly event will feature some great movie selections playing on our big, outdoor screen at Carolina Beach Lake Park. Movies will be shown Sundays from May 29 through September 4, 2016.

Grab the kids, a few blankets and beach chairs, and head to the lake in Carolina Beach to enjoy one of the following FREE outdoor movies! There will also be cotton candy, popcorn, candy, soft drinks and more! Want to bring your own snacks and beverages? That's fine! Just no alcoholic beverages, please!

Free Movie at the Lake: PLANES: FIRE & RESCUE Sunday, May 24, 2015

A beloved Pleasure Island tradition is back for the 2015 summer season, and the Free Movies at the Lake gets started with PLANES: FIRE & RESCUE on Sunday, May 24th.

About the film:

PG, 2014

When world-famous air racer Dusty learns that his engine is damaged and he may never race again, he must shift gears and is launched into the world of aerial firefighting. Dusty joins forces with veteran fire and rescue helicopter Blade Ranger and his team, a bunch of all-terrain vehicles known as The Smokejumpers. Together, the fearless team battles a massive wildfire, and Dusty learns what it takes to become a true hero.

Summer Movie Lineup!

The schedule of Movies at the Lake has been released for the summer of 2015!

Sunday evenings throughout the summer the Carolina Beach Lake is the place to be. Each week an entertaining and family friendly feature is shown on the giant inflatable screen. Sit outside under the stars, enjoying some quality time with family and friends, and the sound of the ocean just a couple of blocks away.

There's something for everyone among the outdoor movie selections for 2015. Kids will find new hits and sequels to some of their favorites, and grown ups can reminisce with remakes of classics from their own childhoods as well as share a few originals with the next generation. 

Concessions are available for purchase or you can bring a picnic. Bring beach chairs or a blanket, sit back, and enjoy the show! 

Movies start at 8:45. Arrive early for the best seating!

BBQ Cook Off March 7, 2015

Are you ready to taste some truly amazing barbecue? Do you have what it takes to separate the best from the rest? Then come on down to the Carolina Beach Lake on March 7th for the Step up for Soldiers Back Yard BBQ Cook-Off!

This fun event pits the area's top barbecue enthusiasts against each other in a head to head competition all in support of a great organization. Contestants bring their secret spices, rubs, and sauces and cook overnight to be ready to present their BBQ to the judges and attendees the next day. Purchase tickets to taste the entries and cast your vote for best BBQ!

You Are Invited!

To benefit the Fire Victims and celebrate the lives of those we have lost as a community.  Join us as we light the lake with love and show our support for the families facing great loss this holiday season. There will be free music and caroling as we unite our voices in memory.

WHEN: Friday, Dec. 19th from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Hot Chocolate, coffee and baked goods will be available for donations to benefit fire victims.

Grab your little duckling for an activity unlike any other.Your child will learn about pond dwellers as they navigate through stations around Carolina Beach Lake. Children will activate their brain by reading "Pond Babies" as they burn energy, moving along the lake.

And the winners are...

They came, they tasted, they boogied the afternoon away!

The Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce held the 18th Annual Pleasure Island Chowder Cook-Off this past Saturday, April 12, 2013 at the Carolina Beach Lake.  

A record-setting crowd got to enjoy delicious chowder from nine local and regional restaurants from Carolina Beach to Wilmington and as far away as Shallotte. Thousands enjoyed great food, good music, and family fun, with the kids and the entire family at this family-oriented event. Children enjoyed the park's playground and a Kidz Zone with face-painting, a giant inflatable slide and more. The gates were scheduled to open at 11:30 am, but due to the crowds, people were admitted by 11:00 am.

A distinguished panel of judges including Mayors, Councilmen and Media personalities selected:

Havana's Fresh Island Restaurant - Judge's 1st Runner Up

The coveted People's Choice 1st place winner went to:

Havana's Fresh Island Restaurant - People's Choice 1st Place (for the 4th year in a row!!)
Gibby's Dock and Dine - People's Choice 1st Runner Up

Two additional prizes were awarded with the Most Enthusiastic Tent going to Havana's and the Best Decorated Tent went to Gibby's.


During the Chowder Cook-Off, The Mark Roberts Band entertained the 3,500+ folks, while they ate chowder, swayed to the beat and downed a cold beverage in the picture-perfect Pleasure Island afternoon. The Chamber would like to thank all their sponsors (Eye Care Associates, Carolina Family Medicine and Urgent Care, R.A. Jeffries Distributing and the Town of Carolina Beach), as well as all our volunteers, Step-Up For Soldiers, The Pleasure Island Parrot Heads and especially the nine competing restaurants.

A little later today the smell of delicious BBQ smoke will start wafting throughout Pleasure Island...heralding the start of the cooking that will go on throughout the night culminating in the 3rd Annual Step Up For Soldiers Backyard BBQ Cook-Off!

Many brave souls will face the unusually cold weather we're having to carefully craft their BBQ masterpieces, competing for bragging rights as the Island's top pitmasters. Whose is truly the best? Come see for yourself!

Carolina Beach Farmers Market Opens for Season May 11

It's time for another highly anticipated sign that the summer season is just around the corner...the opening of the Carolina Beach Farmers Market! Starting Saturday, May 11, 2013 (and continuing through September 28th) head to the Carolina Beach Lake each Saturday between 8 am and 1 pm to purchase fresh produce, plants, dairy products, eggs, wine, freshly baked goods, and much more directly from the local farmers, producers, and artisans.

Strolling through the market is a wonderful way to spend a weekend morning, and you'll reap the benefits all week long as you turn your purchases into healthy, delicious meals.
